About Us

PUP Hygears is an organization that believes each member is an asset of the whole body, and that dream achieves by teamwork.

This team aims to enrich the research recognition of the students at the University. Furthermore, it envisions developing the technological advancement of our country. By innovating and creating new researches, we seek to provide solutions to some of the current major issues in society.

The team was founded in 2013, gathering all the committed and research passionate students from the PUP College of Engineering and Architecture. They started its mission by participating in the annual Shell Eco-marathon Asia and various national competitions.

Hygears Team

Shell Eco-Marathon Asia

The team has been participating in the competition for about 7 years and through that, our main focus is always on the On-Track competition. But, seeking more opportunities to present the team also internally, the team sets foot to off-track awards. The team bags the First Runner up place in this Communication Category and the only Philippine Team who won in the Off-Track Awards. For the year 2021’s theme of the communication plan is 3I meaning IMMERSE, INNOVATE, and INFLUENCE. The team came up with this formula to have a standardized roadmap where they can align their programs and initiatives.

Schneider Go Green 2021

The team has five entries for Schneider Go Green 2021. They also collaborated with Electrical Engineering Wired, an Electrical Engineering organization in the same university, in this preparation that has two teams. Thus, there were seven teams from the university participating in the competition. This participation is one of the huge initiatives of the team that year. The organization sends off three (3) qualified Teams in the Country Semi-Finals. They are Team Hestia (Lyka Mae Martinez and Nehemiah Lucas), Team Iskong Piliksik (Yvonne Margarette Mina and Jade Rex Cortez), and Team Liwanag (Joyce Marie Magno and Lechard Malapitan).

CIM Virtual Design Competition 2021

The Competition started on September 24, 2020, and submissions were accepted until December 9, 2020.Tutorials were also held on October 27 – 30, 2020 for students that are new to handling Solid Edge. Design Entries were also posted on the CIM Digital Manufacturing Solutions Facebook page. Winners were announced on the Digital Launch of Solid Edge 2021. In totality, 6 students joined the competition, 5 of which are members of PUP Hygears. The following team members dominate the competition through their design entries: Nathaniele Baloloy (3rd Year, Mechanical Engineering Student,Aesthetics Team Leader, Nehemiah Lucas (4th Year, Mechanical Engineering Student, Mechanical Team Member) and Joel Dimas (3rd Year Mechanical Engineering Student, Mechanical Team Member).

Emerson Innovation Challenge 2019

The Research Team of PUP Hygears prevailed with another outstanding achievement for ranking 1ST RUNNER UP on the recently concluded Emerson Innovation Challenge 2019 on November 20, 2019, at Miriam College, Henry Sy Innovation Center. The team showcases their timepiece prototype entitled, HAYA. An instrument that not only can measure time but it also establishes web linkage connection through long-range transmission, integrating data through a network of GPS, that helps identify the location of abundant fishes underwater. Four of the team members namely, Lyka Mae Martinez, Eadrian Basila, Jurie Mae Castronuevo, and Nicole Tugay together with their coaches, Engr. Joselinda Golpeo and Reinier Boniol represented our Sintang Paaralan for the said competition. The team was also supported by their team manager, Rojet Estilles and Electronics Team Member, Jerico Garcia.

Grand Innovation Exhibit 2019

The team dominated the Mechanical Category during the University Grand Innovation Exhibit held on September 19-20 at the Main Campus, Polytechnic University of Philippines. Exhibiting "ADAN" in the Design and Analysis of Honeycomb Reinforced Carbon Fiber as Monocoque Chassis for Three Wheeled Prototype Vehicle, and as the only entry from the College of Engineering and Architecture.
